Crypto ETFs face sharp retreat as Bitcoin funds shed over $261 million

U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs registered heavy net outflows on October 14, reversing recent gains as macro pressure pushed Bitcoin lower and spurred widespread market liquidations.

U.S. spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds experienced substantial redemptions on October 14, led by approximately $261.5 million in net outflows from Bitcoin funds and around $129.5 million to $130 million from spot Ethereum funds, according to data reported by The Block, Cointelegraph, and Wu Blockchain. The withdrawals reversed positive momentum from October 13, which had seen roughly $176 million in Bitcoin fund inflows.[1][2][4][5]

BlackRock's and Fidelity's products drove the bulk of the selling across major offerings. In an October 15 update, on-chain tracker Lookonchain documented a single-day net outflow of 3,209 BTC ($257.7 million) and 38,915 ETH ($91.19 million), led by Fidelity's FBTC shedding 1,870 BTC, BlackRock's IBIT losing 1,358 BTC, and BlackRock's ETHA recording a net loss of 45,247 ETH. Separately, Wu Blockchain cited SoSoValue figures showing BlackRock's ETHA logged $110 million in outflows, while Bitwise's BITB countered the trend with modest inflows of about $2.2 million.[3][5][6][7]

The institutional pullback coincided with broad digital asset declines following core CPI data that renewed market expectations of potential interest rate hikes, according to The Block. Amid the broader sell-off, crypto market liquidations climbed to $1 billion as Bitcoin dropped toward $81,000, reported Analytics Insight. Other spot funds experienced mixed activity, with Solana and HYPE funds logging outflows while XRP and ZEC products recorded modest net inflows.[1][2][8]
