Anthropic pitches Claude's chip design speed to IPO investors

Anthropic is telling prospective IPO investors that its 15-person chip design team uses its Claude AI models to accelerate the development of custom chips, reportedly cutting design times compared to estimates of workflows at Nvidia and AMD.

Anthropic has told investors in recent meetings that its 15-person chip design team is using its Claude models to handle engineering and design tasks for custom AI hardware, according to a report by The Information. The company is heading toward an initial public offering later this month that could value it at around $1.5 trillion.[2][3][4][6]

Engineers on the team found that Claude reduces the time needed to design chips compared to their own estimates of traditional workflows at major chip designers such as Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices. The custom chips under development are intended to help train and run Claude.[1][5][6]

Anthropic has not announced any plans to sell its chip design tools commercially. By developing internal silicon, Anthropic is following a similar path to rival OpenAI, which designed its own chip codenamed Jalapeño.[5][6]
