Akash Network votes on migrating from Cosmos to Solana as Proposal 346 nears passage
Akash Network is concluding a governance vote on Proposal 346 to migrate its protocol from Cosmos to Solana and convert AKT into an SPL token, with preliminary tallies showing overwhelming support.

Akash Network is on the verge of approving Proposal 346, a governance measure to migrate the Akash Protocol away from its native Cosmos chain over to Solana, according to Crypto Banter. As the voting window closed on November 2, 2026, tallies showed 97.26% voting yes (59,954,311 AKT), 1.29% voting no (797,761 AKT), 1.44% abstaining (888,216 AKT), and 0.00% vetoing (765 AKT). With turnout reaching 69.58% against a 33.40% quorum threshold, the measure was marked as expected to pass.[2]
Under the proposal, AKT tokens would convert 1:1 into Solana SPL tokens through a one-way migration portal following two independent security audits, according to That Martini Guy. Once launched, tokenholders will have a two-year window to complete the transfer before the portal closes. However, the compute marketplace itself will not transition right away; completing that cutover will require additional development, testing, and a separate governance vote.[1][2]
That Martini Guy characterized the initiative as a strategic shift banking on Solana's liquidity, infrastructure, and DePIN ecosystem as a stronger foundation than operating an independent Cosmos chain. The departure has also reignited broader debates across the sector, with SolanaFloor noting that Akash leaving its own Layer 1 brings the long-standing "appchain thesis" under intense scrutiny.[1][3]

Akash is considering a pretty major change. The project is voting to move its network from Cosmos to Solana, with the governance vote closing later today. If approved, AKT will migrate 1:1 into a Solana SPL token following two independent security audits. The interesting part is that the marketplace won't move immediately. That requires further development, testing and another governance vote. Akash is effectively betting that Solana's liquidity, infrastructure and DePIN ecosystem offer a better path forward than maintaining its own Cosmos chain. That's a significant decision for the future of the project.
